CHERRY CREEK ELEMENTARY NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

The Nebo School District recently announced that a study is being done to consider the closure of Cherry Creek Elementary, due to declining enrollment patterns. Concerned community members should know the following:

• Cherry Creek has been selected due to its location and the potential for the land to be utilized by Springville City, despite the educational success of the school and its staff (USBE reports show that Cherry Creek outperforms district and state averages).

• As the only Title 1 school in east Springville, many families and students would be adversely affected by a loss of resources that are currently meeting immediate needs of our most vulnerable population. It is not guaranteed that Title 1 status will transfer.

• There is a lack of transparency regarding the data that is being assessed as part of the closure study, and no alternative options or prior discussions on the topic have been made public. Closing an essential, high-performing school should be a last resort.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

  1. Do your own research and contact members of the school board
  2. Attend the School Board Meeting on June 10th at 6:00 PM at the District Office in Spanish Fork at 350 South Main St., Spanish Fork
  3. Connect with our parent and community coalition
